Telostrand Tips:

This test kit has three components: the swab-and-tube combo, and the biohazard bag. It also includes a clinical pack return mailing envelope and label that you will use to ship the sample back to Telostrand.

Do not eat, drink, brush your teeth, use mouthwash, tobacco-based products, or chewing gum for 30 minutes prior to collection.

Make sure you’ve found a comfortable, private place to properly test yourself.

Ready to Test?

• Wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
• Remove the swab-and-tube combo from it’s packaging.
• Then, rub the swab in a continuous motion behind your bottom teeth for 20 seconds
• Remove the swab from your mouth and unscrew it from the tube.
• Next, flip the swab so you can insert it into the tube, swab-end first.
• Then, tighten the cap with the swab inside the tube.
• Place the tube into the biohazard bag provided.
• Wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
• Once collection has been completed, place the biohazard bag containing your specimen into the return mailing pack and ship your sample back to Telostrand.
• If you wish to refrigerate the sample, make sure to place the mailing pack in a separate bag in a fridge, far from other food or liquids (this ensures that the sample is stored safely prior to shipment).
• Once you are ready to ship, bring your package to the shipping provider labeled on the mailing pack. It’s that simple!

• Spit five times into the collection funnel (or more if needed so the saliva sample reaches the line indicated on the tube). The saliva will flow down into the collection tube.
  • If you’re unable to spit, try drinking a glass of water before starting the collection process again.
• Click the cap down to release the reagent into the sample.
• Unscrew the funnel and then replace it with the cap provided.
• Place the tube into the biohazard bag provided.
• Wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
• Once collection has been completed, place the biohazard bag containing your specimen into the return mailing pack and ship your sample back to Telostrand.
• If you wish to refrigerate the sample, make sure to place the mailing pack in a separate bag in a fridge, far from other food or liquids (this ensures that the sample is stored safely prior to shipment).
• Once you are ready to ship, bring your package to the shipping provider labeled on the mailing pack. It’s that simple!

• Start by spreading the labia with two fingers.
• Then, with your other hand, use the sterile wipe provided to clean the urethral meatus, the opening where the urine comes from.
• Make sure to wipe in a downward motion.

It is important to keep the labia spread apart while you urinate.

• Start by sanitizing the head of the penis and the urethral meatus, the opening where the urine comes from, with the sterile wipe provided.
• If you are uncircumcised, make sure to retract the foreskin prior to sanitation.

It is important to retract the foreskin while you urinate.

For those of you who might be in transition, please use the instructions for the anatomy that best suits you. If you have any questions, please consult your doctor prior to testing.

Before you test, note that urine collection is best done first thing in the morning, or after a couple of hours of no food or drink.

Ready to Test?

• First, wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
• Use the sterile wipe provided for a clean catch urine sample. Don’t know what a clean catch is? Review our Clean Catch instructions on our website.
• Unscrew the lid and set it aside on a clean surface. Don’t touch the inside portions of the cup or lid to avoid contamination.
• Once you’re ready to urinate, make sure you are in a private place to do so.
• Once you’ve started urinating into the toilet, count to three. We want to make sure you’ve collected “mid-stream” by catching the urine into the cup before you are done.
• Make sure to fill half the cup, or about 15 milliliters, before removing the cup away from the stream.
• Screw the lid tightly onto the cup
• Place the cup into the biohazard bag provided.
• Wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
• Once collection has been completed, place the biohazard bag containing your specimen into the return mailing pack and ship your sample back to Telostrand.

• Take the swab out of its packaging.
• Then, insert the cotton portion of the swab into your mouth and rub the inside of each cheek for ten seconds.
  • If you don’t have a sensitive gag reflex, you can swab further back into your mouth by your uvula—that little piece of soft tissue that dangles at the back of your throat.
• Gently remove the swab, then place it into the tube.
• At the perforated point, break the swab and discard the excess.
• Tighten the cap onto the tube.
• Place the tube into the biohazard bag provided.
• Wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
• Once collection has been completed, place the biohazard bag containing your specimen into the return mailing pack and ship your sample back to Telostrand.

• Then, insert the cotton portion of the swab 3/4th of an inch or 1.5 cm into one nostril and spin it around five times. Repeat the same steps on your other nostril.
• Gently remove the swab, then place it into the tube.

• Wash your hands with soap and warm water for thirty seconds.
